William Huntriss was the eldest son of William and Charlotte Elizabeth Huntriss. He was with the
9th Bn., Duke of Wellington's (West Yorkshire Regt.),later attached to the Gold Coast Regiment, WAFF (West Africa Frontier Force}.
He died of pneumonian Wednesday, 23rd October 1918, aged 32, and is buried at Kumasi European Cemetery, Ghana (Grave 17)
Kumasi, the chief town of Ashanti region, lies some 275 kilometres inland from Accra. The cemetery is on the left hand side of the main entrance to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, near the corner of Bantama Road and Stewart Avenue. There are six Commonwealth burials of the First World War in this cemetery.
The Gold Coast regiment, a formation of Artillary and Infantry whose battle honours go back to 1873, formed part of the Royal West African Frontier Force. During the first WorldWar, the regiment served with distinction on Togoland (now Togo), in the Cameroons and in the last phase of the East Africa campaign
